HOW WE SUPPORT OUR ENVIRONMENTAL CLAIMS

We prefer specific, formula- and component-level information to broad environmental labels. This page explains what our claims refer to, how they are calculated, what is excluded and when the supporting information was last reviewed.

  • Natural-origin percentages are calculated on finished formulas in accordance with ISO 16128, using the formula composition and natural-origin indices provided for the individual raw materials. The percentage is formula-specific. Natural origin does not, by itself, measure environmental impact or product safety.

  • Unless a finished-product test is expressly identified, biodegradability percentages shown by The Today Project are calculations by weight based on biodegradability information supplied for the individual raw materials. They are not equivalent to an OECD biodegradability test on the finished formula. The result, data source and treatment of water and inorganic materials are recorded for each formula.

  • “Refillable” means that a compatible refill is offered or supplied for the named product or hotel system and that the primary container is intended to be retained. Refill availability varies by product and market.

  • Bottle bodies, pumps, labels, internal coatings, caps, boxes and refill pouches are described separately because they use different materials and may require different collection routes. We do not describe a complete product as plastic-free when a pump, liner, label, coating or refill contains plastic.

  • A recyclability statement identifies a material and the type of collection route for which it is designed. Actual collection and recycling depend on local infrastructure, component separation and consumer or professional handling.

  • Comparative results apply only to the reference system, functional unit, packaging configuration, logistics, occupancy and end-of-life assumptions identified in the supporting assessment. They are not statements about the total environmental footprint of The Today Project or of a hotel.

  • The Beauty of Restriction and Restricted Substances Standard are voluntary standards developed by The Today Project. They are not official certifications. Absence claims refer to intentionally added substances unless analytical testing of the finished product is expressly identified.

  • Claims are reviewed whenever a formula, raw-material supplier, bottle, pump, label, refill or manufacturing configuration changes. Last reviewed: august 2026. For questions about the scope of a claim, contact noma@labnoma.com
